Folk song linked to foul play in CBA games

A BILLBOARD hit song played in China's national basketball games has proven "too attractive" that Chinese Basketball Association has to ban it to prevent players from getting distracted.
The Chinese folk song, "Disturbed," or "Tan Te" in Chinese, has spread like wildfire on Chinese websites with its unique lyric and melody and its influence can be felt in basketball courts.
A team from the eastern Zhejiang Province blamed its rival host team in northeastern Liaoning Province for playing the song to distract its players in a game early this month, Beijing News reported today.
With a three-game winning streak before the match, Zhejiang team scored only 30 of 80 shoots and eventually lost the match to Liaoning by 25 points. Meanwhile, Wang Han, a coach of the Jilin Province team, also blamed the team's loss on the "terrible music" which they never heard before. Jilin team lost the game to Liaoning by 29 points.
In response to growing complaints, Chinese Basketball Association yesterday issued a ban on playing the song during all CBA games. It described the song as "discordant noise" that might be tuned on deliberately to affect the rival's performance.
