Food monitoring increase
CHINA will this year tighten food safety monitoring on dairy and meat products, food additives and alcohol, according to Health Minister Chen Zhu.
Food-related use of banned pesticides, veterinary medicine, and illegal additives, will also be targeted, said Chen, referring to key tasks of food safety risk control for 2012.
Meanwhile, the country will increase monitoring of radiation levels in food following last year's nuclear accident in Japan, said Chen.
China established the National Food Safety Risk Assessment Center last year, offering technological support in monitoring food security and issuing early warnings.
Chen said it will strive to forge closer cooperation with researchers and universities in the sector.
