Forced abortion in media spotlight again
A woman in Shishi City, Fujian Province said local family planning officials forced her to abort her 7 ?-month-old fetus because she already has two children.
Pan Chunyan, 31, said she was forcibly taken to a hospital in April to undergo induced labor and an official grabbed her hand to make a fingerprint on a surgery agreement, according to a Heilongjiang TV report.
Wang Qiulan, an eyewitness, said she saw about seven officials carrying Pan to the hospital.
But a doctor at the Xianyou County Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital said Pan was only six and a half months in pregnancy, one month less than she claimed.
Local family planning officials have remained silent.
Under the Chinese law, women who are pregnant for more than six months are forbidden to have induced labor.
