Foreign students detained over Cup celebrations

TWO foreign soccer fans have been detained for 14 days in Beijing after allegedly stealing seven bottles of Chivas whisky from a bar in celebration of Spain's victory in the World Cup.

The two students, one European and one African, watched the match between Spain and Holland at a bar in Beijing's Sanlitun area in the early morning of Sunday, today's Beijing Times reported.

Excited over Spain's victory, they spent all their 2,000 yuan (US$295.33) at the bar and decided to steal whisky from another bar to continue the celebration, the report said.

The bar owner found the store had been robbed one hour later and reported police.

Police caught the two who were still drinking and celebrating on the roadside.
