Forest fire in Fujian Province under control
A fire in east China's Fujian Province was put out this morning, about 22 hours after it claimed mountain forests only a few paces from the nearest farmhouses, local authorities said.
As of 10:30 am, no visible fire was seen at the fire site, which extended to 10 villages in Shaxian County of Sanming City, 270 km from the provincial capital Fuzhou, a forestry official told Xinhua.
More than 3,000 people, including police officers, firemen and villagers, were mobilized to fight the fire, which burned across 130 hectares of forest since 12:30 pm yesterday, said Lu Yueliang, deputy forestry chief of the province.
"They are still patrolling the mountains fearing flames might erupt again," he said.
