Former adviser admits to taking bribes

A former senior political adviser in northeast China’s Liaoning Province pled guilty to taking bribes when he appeared in court yesterday.

Chen Tiexin, former vice chairman of the Liaoning Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, went on trial at Harbin City Intermediate People’s Court in northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province.

Chen admitted that between 2008 and 2013, he took bribes in cash and goods worth a total of 23.7 million yuan (US$3.6 million) when he was Party secretary of Chaoyang City.

He accepted bribes to help companies or individuals with construction projects, bank loans and promotions.

Chen was expelled from the Party and dismissed from office in October 2014 following an internal Party investigation.

Harbin City People’s Procuratorate later filed charges.

A verdict will be announced at a later date.
