Former governor sacked from Party

THE former governor of Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture in southwest China's Yunnan Province has been sacked from Party membership for serious disciplinary violations.

Yang Hongwei was alleged to have taken bribes of 10.11 million yuan (US$1.57 million), US$138,000 and valuable goods worth 959,800 yuan from 2006 to 2011. Yang and his wife Yu Saiying owned 17 properties in Yunnan and six in Australia, China Youth Daily reported today.

Yang was also found using drugs and having affairs with several women, the Standing Committee of CPC Yunnan Provincial Committee said at a meeting yesterday.

Wang Nankun, former director of Yunnan Local Taxation Bureau, and Chen Xicheng, former deputy director of Yunnan Housing and Urban-Rural Construction Department, were also fired from the Party for accepting bribes.

The trio will be transferred to judicial authorities for legal proceedings.
