LU Ping, former director of State Council's Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office, died on Sunday in Beijing after an illness, according to a statement on the website of the office Monday. He was 88.
Lu was the head of the office when Hong Kong was returned to the Motherland on July 1, 1997.
