Former police chief charged with murder
A RETIRED police chief in north China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region has been charged with murder, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate said yesterday.
Zhao Liping, 64, was detained on Friday in Chifeng after a woman with whom he was alleged to have had an intimate relationship was found dead.
Sources close to police said the victim, surnamed Li, 27, was Zhao’s mistress.
Zhao allegedly killed Li because she wanted to reveal unspecified wrongdoings perpetrated by Zhao, according to The Beijing News.
Chifeng police told news website Caixin that Li called them last Friday night, saying she was being “hounded” by Zhao.
An officer told the website that Zhao was suspected of shooting and injuring Li before escaping in a taxi, where she called the police. Zhao is said to have caught up with Li, killing her and putting her body in the trunk of his car.
Li’s body was found the next afternoon.
Police also found two guns on the hill as well as Li’s belongings and a blood-stained car seat, the website reported.
