Former robber stabbed while fighting bag-snatchers

A CONVICTED robber has been hailed as a hero after being stabbed while trying to stop three men snatching a bag in south China's Guangdong Province.

Huang Dongtao, 33, is out of danger after medical treatment and Guangzhou police want to reward him, today's New Express newspaper reported.

Huang was having supper near Xijiao Ecological Park in Guangzhou's Liwan District on Tuesday night when he heard a woman struggling against three robbers 100 meters away, the store owner surnamed Wu told the newspaper.

Huang jumped onto the robbers trying to snatch back the woman's purse, but he was stabbed twice before they dropped the bag and escaped.

Huang said he sprinted to stop them because he hated crime after serving four years for robbery. Since being released from jail last year, he bought a tricycle and started a delivery business.
