Fourth transport chief removed from the post

THE job of Department of Transportation chief in central China's Henan Province is vacant again after the fourth sacking since 1993.

The last four people to have held the post have either been sentenced or detained for disciplinary violations.

Dong Yong'an, the former director, was taken away for investigation by the provincial disciplinary watchdog last December.

Later he was put into "double designation" - where a Party official needs to explain claims of disciplinary violations or wrongdoings at a designated time and place.

Shi Faliang, Dong's predecessor, was also under double designation status for criminal and disciplinary violations in December 2002.

Zhang Kuntong, who was found to have taken more than 400,000 yuan (US$60,948) in bribes on 23 occasions during his tenure as director from 1994-99, was sentenced to death in March 2001.

Zeng Jincheng, who was sacked from the post of the head of the department in 1993, was sentenced to 15 years behind bars for corruption in October 1997.
