Foxconn to hire 15,000 'stable-minded' workers
THE Foxconn Technology group, whose mega-factory in Shenzhen was plagued by worker suicides, will hire 15,000 more "stable-minded workers" in its plant in central China's Wuhan City.
The first standard for new recruits is that they must be mature and not too emotional, Zhang Zhongliang, a human resources manager with the company told yesterday's Wuhan Evening News.
As many as 10 Foxconn workers, all in their 20s, committed suicide at its Shenzhen factory this year. The company blamed the deaths on the fragile state of mind of the young migrant workers while workers criticized the rigid management.
The new workers at the Wuhan Foxconn Technology Park will produce laptop and desktop computers, the report said. Recruitment will be completed by the end of the year while 7,000 people will be recruited this month alone.
The world's largest electronics contract maker is moving its production lines to inland cities after two salary increases in south China's Shenzhen.
An assembly worker at Wuhan will be paid 950 yuan (US$140) a month, while the same worker could earn more than 2,000 in Shenzhen.
