Fraud charges dropped

A physics professor accused of scheming to provide secret US technology to China expressed his relief after US prosecutors dropped the case, and thanked friends and colleagues for their support.

Xi Xiaoxing, 57, called the case a nightmare in which he “suffered professionally, mentally, physically, and financially.”

The US attorney’s office declined to comment on a motion the office filed on Friday seeking to drop four counts of wire fraud against Xi.

In a statement, Xi, of Philadelphia’s Temple University, wrote: “I have done nothing more than common academic collaborations practiced by so many colleagues every day.”
