A senior official removed from the Party's Central Committee in 2008 has been appointed to a top government position.
Yu Youjun has been named deputy director of the State Office of South-to-North Water Diversion Project, according to the office's website.
Yu was removed from the Central Committee when he was vice minister of culture. Xinhua said Yu used his influence to gain profits for relatives when he was mayor of Shenzhen City. His removal was subject to a two-year probation within the Party.
