Fujian Province bans fire in open country
SOUTHEASTERN Fujian Province has banned all fires in open country from today for one month.
Several fires now under control, had started in the province, including the fire in Shaxian County of Sanming City which stopped the Yingtan-Xiamen railway yesterday, according to a Xinhua news agency report.
China is plagued by drought. Forest fires have also been reported in Hunan, Hubei, Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan Provinces.
Two people were killed and two injured in fires yesterday that engulfed part of a forest in southwestern Guizhou Province.
In Hunan, an official died fighting a forest fire yesterday.
Two suspects in Sichuan have been detained by police for allegedly burning grass to make farm fertilizer.
