Fury as ill, naked woman filmed

MEN who rushed to photograph and video a distressed young woman who stripped naked on a Dalian to Shanghai train have been widely condemned.

The 21-year-old woman with mental health problems took off her clothes on the train on Saturday and began screaming.

Around 10 male passengers crowded around, not to help, but to ogle and take photographs on their cell phones.

The actions of these passengers, mostly young men but also including some in their fifties or sixties, have led to widespread anger and condemnation across the Internet.

Lawyer Liu Chunquan said the men's behavior reflected moral degeneration and warned that anyone who uploaded footage online or showed pictures in public would be punished by law for violating a person's reputation and spreading pornography.

The young woman, who comes from Anshan, Liaoning Province, finally received help from the train's crew and was sent to hospital.

The woman began acting strangely on the T131 train on Saturday afternoon, washing her hair in the sink in the train's toilet, according to train officials. She poured water over herself, then took off her clothes and ran out of the toilet.

According to a witness, a train attendant rushed to the scene and tried to calm the woman down.

Several female passengers tried to help the woman dress, but she began screaming and shaking off her clothes.

At that moment, a group of male passengers arrived and began filming the distressed woman.

"They gathered around the girl, scaring her with flashlights and camera shutter sounds," said a witness. "She kept screaming, but they didn't stop."

The woman's ordeal lasted for around five minutes until the train crew's lead member, surnamed Sha, arrived and loudly rebuked the men.

"Sickening," said web user on the popular website sina.com. "How can they make fun out of a mental patient? Would they do the same thing if she happened to be their relatives?"

"These people bring shame to China," said another post on the same website, "They are suffering some mental problems that needed to be treated at once."
