Fury over official's threat to traffic police

A county official in central China has drawn wide condemnation after an online video clip showed him threatening to kill a traffic police after he was caught driving through a no-entry area.

The policeman surnamed Zhao in Zhengzhou, the capital city of Henan Province, said he stopped the plateless Toyota Camry after it passed the no-entry sign at an intersection on May 13. Under his request, the driver took out a plate from the trunk but the number didn't match that of his license, the local Dahe Daily reported today.

When Zhao was about to hand out a fine, a man in the back seat got out and said "Don't give me any trouble. You are just a cop."

He then showed Zhao his identity card, saying he was an official from Baofeng County and he could easily "kill him." The official, who was later identified as Li Jie, then wrote down Zhao's police number so as to lodge a complaint against him.

A witness recorded the whole episode and uploaded it on several video-sharing websites, which aroused indignation of many viewers.

Zhao said he was being investigated after Li's complaint and a Baofeng County government spokesman confirmed that Li works there, but refused to give more details.
