Gale-force winds tear roof off Beijing Capital Airport T3 building
Gale-force winds ripped some roof panels off Beijing Capital Airport's Terminal 3 building last night, an airport spokesman has confirmed.
The mishap occurred around 8:15pm. Foam materials for roof insulation flew in the winds but did not affect flights in the airport. Engineers and workers rushed to the building to repair its roof, Beijing Times reported today.
Some passengers suspected the building's contractor of using low-grade materials to build the Terminal 3, which was completed just three years ago. They said it was an irony that the contractor had claimed the T3 was built to withstand severe weather conditions, including hurricane, the paper said.
It was not the first time that the Beijing Capital Airport had its roofs blown off. The most recent one occurred last December and delayed more than 200 flights, the report said.
Airport authorities haven't responded to these allegations.
