Gang attacks wedding motorcade, damaging 4 vehicles in Xiamen

A wedding motorcade going to pick up a bride in southeastern China’s Fujian Province was attacked by a gang with welding knives early yesterday and four vehicles were damaged, Xiamen Daily reported today.

Twenty to 30 people carrying 2-meter-long welding knives attacked the wedding motorcade of three cars around 5am in the Zhengban Neighborhood of Xiamen’s Xiang’an District, the report said. One person in the motorcade surnamed Zheng reported hearing two gunshots and then seeing beer bottles being thrown towards them. They were able to get away, but upon returning about 10 minutes later found that three cars in their motorcade, plus a pick-up parked on the road, had all their windows smashed.

Zheng, who broke his arm during the escape, said the leader of the gang had been bearing grudges against him because he declined his toasting invitation at an unrelated event last month.

It was not known if any occupants of the four damaged vehicles were injured. The case is under investigation.
