Gang members' appeals thrown out
A COURT in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality dismissed appeals by six people convicted in connection with organized crime yesterday, upholding two death sentences.
The Chongqing Municipal Higher People's Court upheld sentences passed down on October 21 by the Chongqing Municipal No. 1 Intermediate People's Court.
Yang Tianqing and Liu Chenghu had been sentenced to death. Yang, 35, was convicted of organizing a criminal gang, intentional injury, blackmail, forgery and illegal possession of guns and ammunition.
Liu was sentenced to death for participating in the gang, murder and intentional injury.
Other members received sentences from 11 years to death with a two-year reprieve.
