Gas leak forces residents to leave home

People within one kilometer of a leaking natural gas pipe in a small town in the southwestern Sichuan Province were evacuated from their homes last night, local authorities said.
The pipe in Daxian County burst with a loud noise at about midnight and natural gas leaked into the air, China News Agency reported.
Nearby residents were evacuated immediately and roads near the accident site were closed. Rescuers are working against time to remove hazards.
