Gas leak kills 1 worker, injures 10 in Jiangsu
ONE worker died and 10 others were hospitalized after inhaling toxic gas leaking from a chemical factory in east China's Jiangsu Province, Xinhua reported today.
Four are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit in Subei People's Hospital in Yangzhou City. Doctors said the workers of Chengda Machinery Plant suffered respiratory damage after inhaling the unidentified gas.
The patients were first sent to a hospital in Yizheng City on Sunday and were transferred to Yangzhou City for better treatment the next day. A 47-year-old worker died after treatment failed.
A man, surnamed Li, whose son is among the hospitalized, said his 23-year-old son started coughing and vomiting yesterday morning.
A woman, surnamed Dai, said her father was in a similar condition like Li's son. She said the gas might be leaked from a chemical factory near her father's machinery plant. People also found dead birds and dogs in the plant, she added.
Yizheng government said in a statement that a special team has been formed to investigate the case.
