Gas leak suspected in Macau blast
AN explosion in a restaurant in Macau Special Administrative Region, is believed to have been caused by a gas leak, the area's Fire Services Bureau said yesterday.
The bureau said the explosion, which injured 13 people, took place in a restaurant in Nape at 7am.
The injured included five men and eight women, one of whom was trapped in the rubble and had to be rescued by firemen.
Eight people, four men and four women aged between 41 and 65, were taken to hospital for treatment. One was kept in for observation. The others were treated at the scene for cuts.
The restaurant is on the ground floor of Centro Internacional de Macau on Rua de Malaca.
More than 40 firemen and 16 emergency vehicles responded to the blast.
