Gas leak triggers blast in Jilin, killing at least 2

A gas explosion occurred in Jilin Province on this morning, killing two people and injuring over 20, according to Xinhua News Agency.
The explosion was caused by gas leak at about 6am this morning in a residential area near Jiefang Road, a major thoroughfare in Jilin City. Several apartments and the office building of Jilin Petroleum Corporation were damaged.
Pictures of the blast scene showed almost all the windows of Jilin Petroleum Corporation building were broken under the great impact, and the road was strewn with fallen billboards.
"We smelled the gas at about 11pm last night and the local administration began to organize the evacuation," a local resident surnamed Sun said.
By 8am this morning, local firemen were still fighting the fire caused by the explosion. The exact number of casualties may increase as rescue continues.
