Girl, 11, gives birth to premature infant

AN 11-year-old girl gave birth to a premature baby at the Yangzhou Municipal People's Hospital in Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province, on Saturday, the Modern Express newspaper reported today.
The girl was reported to be in poor health after delivery, officials said.
The girl was abandoned by her parents shortly after birth; she then was adopted by a couple. The girl's adoptive mother said because the girl has always had a plump stomach, they were unaware of the pregnancy.
They took the girl to the hospital thinking she had stomach problems. When the parents discovered that the girl was pregnant they wanted her to have an abortion, but it was too late for that. The girl gave birth to a baby under 2 kilograms.
Police said the girl's relatives told them the girl's adoptive father had impregnated her.
