Girl, 16, burned after jilted boyfriend poured gas on her
A 16-YEAR-OLD girl was seriously burned in a car as her ex-boyfriend poured gasoline on her and then lit a fire after they had broken up, Chinanews.com reported today.
The suspect identified as Xu Peng was detained for intentional injury after the attack at a residential area in north China’s Jilin Province on Monday.
Police said the 26-year-old Xu was angered when his girlfriend, surnamed Liu, broke up with him. Liu did not want to talk to him in person.
Xu drove to Liu’s house and yelled for her to come out. He then drove to a nearby gasoline station and bought 550ml of gasoline in a drinking bottle, police said.
Liu thought Xu was gone and went downstairs, where he surprised her. Xu poured the gas on her and dragged her into the car, where they had a quarrel, police said.
Xu ignited the gas with a lighter, which caused serious burns to 30 percent of the victim’s body.
