Girl, 17, critically ill after jabs
A SEVENTEEN-YEAR-OLD girl, in a deep coma for days, is critically ill after vaccinations against H1N1 flu and rabies in south China's Guangdong Province, the latest adverse reaction to vaccinations in the province.
Medical experts said a link between the H1N1 jab and the illness couldn't be ruled out, today's New Express reported.
Xiao Hong, a student with Yangjiang City Medical School, was taken to Yangjiang No.1 People's Hospital on March 17 after starting to vomit and running a fever following a fifth shot against rabies four days before, her sister Zhao Jing told the newspaper.
She was bitten by her pet dog on February 10 and received the first shot two days later.
At that time she had rashes across the body since an H1N1 flu vaccination at her school last December 15, according to Zhao.
Doctor Jiang Yue said her infection is neither H1N1 flu nor rabies.
Medical experts have not yet reached an agreed diagnosis on her illness, according to Feng Rongtian, an official with Yangjiang Disease Control & Prevention Center.
Feng said the H1N1 flu vaccines in Yangjiang were safely bought, stored and transported.
More than 70,000 people have been vaccinated in Guangdong. Four people reported adverse reactions, mostly minor dizziness, fever and vomiting, he added. They have recovered after treatment.
