Girl, 3, dies after car’s skylight clamps down on her neck
A 3-YEAR-OLD girl whose neck was stuck in the skylight of her father’s car died despite attempts to revive her in southwest China’s Sichuan Province, a local newspaper reported today.
The tragedy happened on October 19 when the father, Zhang Jun, was chatting with a friend in the car, according to the report. The girl was standing near the driver’s seat playing with the switches of the skylight.
Zhang found the window had clamped down on his daughter’s neck in the less than five minutes in which they had been talking, the report said. He grabbed the girl and rushed her to a hospital. However, the girl was declared dead after emergency personnel worked on her for half an hour.
Zhang claimed the accident was due to a design defect, so he sought compensation from the auto dealer.
An initial probe by a repair technician found the skylight should not have clamped down on the girl, the report said. A further investigation is underway.
