Girl dies after left on a school bus

A FOUR-YEAR-OLD girl died on a kindergarten bus after being left behind during scorching heat in Maoming, Guangdong Province.
Police are investigating but the bus driver and a teacher who accompanied the children could face criminal charges, Southern Metropolis Daily reported yesterday.
The girl's parents told the newspaper that they had reached a compensation agreement with the kindergarten and don't plan to seek criminal penalties against anyone.
According to Maoming City's education authorities, the girl took the bus to Tongyi Kindergarten on July 1.
When the bus arrived and everyone got off, the girl had bent down to pick up a drink that fell, thus the teacher and the driver didn't realize she was still onboard, the report said.
The driver and the teacher locked the door. She was not found until teachers did a search and found her lying unconscious on the bus.
The girl was sent to a hospital but died later.
According to lawyer Zhu Yongping, the bus driver and teacher could be charged with negligent homicide.
