Girl dumped 430km away by hit-and-run driver

A 12-year-old girl was badly injured by a minibus in central Hunan Province last week. Instead of sending her to a hospital, the driver carried her 430 kilometers to southern Guangdong Province and dumped her on a road there.

The girl was abandoned on a newly built road in Dongguan, the home city of the hit-and-run driver Huang Tianshun, who was arrested on Friday, two days after the accident.

Police are still searching for He Xiaozhen, the girl who was hit last Wednesday in Ningyuan County, Hunan Province, the Xiaoxiang Morning Herald reported today.

Huang, a migrant worker from Dongguan, was driving his uncle home when his vehicle hit He around 4:30pm, causing her face to bleed.

"I planned to send her to a hospital, but my uncle said she was dying and persuaded me to flee," Huang told police.

Fearful of punishment for the girl's death, Huang abandoned the child on a new road in Dongguan then drove home, the paper said.

Police said Huang had attempted suicide several times after he was arrested. "I'd rather die for her!" the paper quoted Huang as saying.

Police are searching for the girl and investigating the accident.
