Girl saved as hijacker surrenders to Fuzhou police
A hijacker who held a seven-year-old girl hostage in south China's Fujian Province surrendered to the police last night and the girl was rescued unscathed, Xinhua reported today.
Police in Fuzhou, the provincial capital, said the man surnamed Chen hijacked a Mercedes car around 9pm yesterday and put a knife on the throat of the female driver's seven-year-old niece as he ordered her to drive to his destination.
The police received a report immediately and intercepted the car five minute later. When the car was stopped, the woman seized the moment to escape.
Fuzhou police managed to find Chen's relatives and began to negotiate with him. About one hour later Chen threw out the knife and surrendered to the police. The girl was not hurt in the incident.
