Gong Li rumored to be dating US actor Cusack
CHINESE actress Gong Li is likely dating American actor John Cusack, her screen lover in the film "Shanghai," after it was disclosed recently by her agent that she had divorced her Singaporean husband.
Gong and Cusack were spotted holding hands when leaving a Beijing hotel during the movie's premiere in China, Southern Metropolis Entertainment Weekly reported yesterday. Hotel porters were quoted as saying they returned together very late that night.
Meanwhile, Gong's manager Christophe Tseng has admitted Gong divorced her husband Ooi Hoe Soeng, a tobacco company executive. Tseng refused to reveal more details and also declined to comment on the actress' relationship with Cusack.
Cusack once said Gong was beautiful and smart, just like Mona Lisa, and that it was very easy to fall in love with her.
Gong has praised her American counterpart as a wizard full of charms. "I'm fond of him," she once said.
Media reports said the couple spent two hours together at a hotel in 2008 during shooting of "Shanghai."
The two were both absent from the movie's premiere on June 10 in Beijing with the same excuse - neither wanted to be present for such a crowded occasion.
Gong, 45, previously admitted that she stayed in hotels instead of her husband's house in Singapore when problems in the marriage occurred.
She was given Singapore citizenship in November 2008.
Cusack, 44, was reported to be single and low profile, but he was witnessed kissing Gong and holding her hand during his stay in China to promote "Shanghai."
Gong married Ooi in February 1996.
