‘Good Samaritans’ teens take separate college entrance exam
Two teenaged heroes who missed the national college entrance exam after they stopped a knife-wielding attacker on a bus on May 31 were allowed to take the test today in Jiangxi Province, People’s Daily reported on its website.
The 17-year-olds Liu Yanbing and Yi Zhengyong were traveling on a bus in Yichun City when a passenger suddenly took out a knife and began slashing at people, the website said.
Liu suffered serious injuries to his back and head while trying to take the knife from the attacker. Yi sustained injuries to his hand.
Because of the wounds, they were unable to sit the gaokao, China’s national college entrance exam, on June 7 and 8. After leaning of their heroics, the Ministry of Education told officials from Jiangxi to make arrangements for them to take a separate test once they had recovered, the report said.
The test was changed to ensure fairness and both teens sat in the same classroom as the exam began today.
