Government cars culled to cut costs up for sale
A TOTAL of 100 official vehicles will be sold on Wednesday in the first of four auctions of the second batch of official vehicles impounded by central government, the National Government Offices Administration said yesterday.
A preview of the vehicles on offer was held yesterday, the administration said.
The vehicles up for auction include Passats and Lincolns, according to the website of Rocar, one of the three auction houses involved.
The official cars are among more than 3,000 taken out of service as part of reform measures that began last July to slash spending.
The first batch of 300 vehicles was auctioned off before Chinese New Year.
Rocar and the other two Beijing-based auction houses, which won a public bid, are handling the auctions.
The money raised will go to the central treasury.
The central government’s measures were introduced in 2014 and local governments have until sometime this year to fully implement the orders.
