Government urges progress on jobs and education
AS well as tough counter-terrorism moves, measures to improve quality of life by securing jobs and education should be adopted, according to details of a policy package for Xinjiang unveiled by the Party leadership.
Creating jobs is top of the agenda while balancing the geographical spread of education is labeled a “priority.”
The leadership vowed to ensure that at least one person from unemployed families is offered a job and free high school education in southern Xinjiang.
Terrorist attacks in the region in recent years were initiated by an extreme minority who shared similarities such as youth, poverty, unemployment and little educational background, police said.
The lack of education could easily lead them to misinterpret Islamic teachings, leaving them vulnerable to suggestions by extremists and making it difficult for them to find jobs to lift them out of hardship.
The government is urging efforts to ensure better lives and more balanced development for residents from all ethnic groups in the autonomous region. They must have livelihoods and a promising future.
Despite double-digit economic growth in recent years, Xinjiang, one-sixth of China’s territory, still has an imbalance in wealth and development.
