Graft watchdog names violators of frugality rules

China's top anti-graft watchdog named and shamed around 160 officials involved in 128 cases flouting Communist Party of China (CPC) frugality rules in a weekly report on Wednesday.
The list of violators on the website of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) includes government officials as well as executives from state-owned enterprises and financial institutions.
Their misdeeds include spending public money on dining, traveling and gifts, holding banquets aimed at receiving gifts or cash, and personal use of government vehicles.
They have received punishments ranging from warnings to fines to demotion and dismissal. Suspected criminal cases have been transferred to judicial organs, according to the CCDI.
On Sept. 6, the commission unveiled a form on its website inviting the public to report excessive spending by officials during the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays.
The CPC leadership has been running its frugality campaign since late 2012.
