Grandma, baby die in suicide jump after quarrel

A woman holding her one-month-old granddaughter jumped from their 15th-floor apartment yesterday and both died in what appeared to be a family dispute. The tragedy happened in Zhengzhou, capital of central Henan Province.
The distraught young mother then cut her wrist to commit suicide but has been rescued and is now in stable condition, the Henan Business Daily reported today.
Neighbors said the baby's father squatted down near the two bodies and remained silent for a long time, the paper said.
The neighbors said they heard a fierce quarrel in the family around 11:40am before the suicide jump and they suspected the grandmother in her 50s was suffering depression. But this could not be confirmed by her relatives.
Police cordoned off the area for investigation, the paper said.
