Guangdong official in discipline probe

A SENIOR official in Guangdong Province has been suspended from duty and is being investigated for serious discipline violations.
Liu Youjun, the director of Guangdong's labor and social security department, was reportedly under double-designation, a special investigative procedure under which a Party official is ordered to explain allegations of disciplinary violations or corruption at a designated time and place, according to a statement issued by Guangdong disciplinary authority on Sunday. .
Liu, 46, could be linked with the corruption investigation of Guangdong's former top political advisor Chen Shaoji, which would make him the fourth official from Guangdong involved, the Beijing-based Caijing magazine quoted an unidentified source as saying.
The Central Commission for Disciplinary Inspection of Communist Party of China ordered its Guangdong committee to investigate Liu after information was discovered during the inquiry into Chen.
The source told Caijing that Liu's disciplinary violations took place between 2004 and last year, and included accepting bribes, seeking illegal profits for others and leading a lavish life style.
Chen, chairman of the province's Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, has been under investigation since investigators into China's former home appliance king Huang Guangyu and former assistant public security minister Zheng Shaodong were tipped off that Chen, 63, had a large amount of property that couldn't be accounted for.
Chen used to be Zheng's superior and was the head of the political and legal affairs department of the CPC's Guangdong Committee for nine years from 1993 and served as vice Party secretary of Guangdong from 1998 to 2004.
He became Guangdong's top political adviser in 2004 and was re-elected in 2008. He was also an alternate member of the 16th Central Committee of the CPC.
Chen used to be director of Guangdong police, and Zheng was the executive deputy. Zheng, 51, served as assistant minister of public security from 2005 before he was put under "double designation" status with Xiang Huaizhu, an official at the Ministry of Public Security, on January 12 for allegedly accepting bribes while probing financial crimes.
He was linked to an investigation into gambling and money laundering that also involved Huang.
Huang, named the second-richest man on the Chinese mainland by Forbes magazine last year, faces charges of manipulating the prices of shares in two companies.
Almost at exactly the same time, Wang Huayuan, the top Party disciplinary supervisor for Zhejiang Province, was removed from his post and is under investigation.
Wang, 61, had served Guangdong as head of its disciplinary committee before he moved to Zhejiang in 2006. Wang was also reported to be linked with Huang.
