Guangdong village children fall victim to lead poisoning
MORE children were tested positive of lead poisoning in Renhua County, southern Guangdong Province after 160 children showed excessive levels of lead in their blood early last month, the Guangzhou Daily reported today.
A four-year-old boy named Xiao Jun is among the newly confirmed victims in Gangping Village. His blood lead level reached 273.7 micrograms per liter. "My son can't even say a complete sentence," his father told the newspaper.
Xiao Jun's elder sister also suffered lead poisoning which has impaired her health. She frequently visits the hospital for symptoms of cold and fever.
More than 250 children in the village received blood tests last month after lead poisoning was reported in the local press.
Industrial pollution is believed to have caused the lead poisoning and local authorities are probing into the case.
