Guangzhou deputy police chief detained for corruption

A senior police officer in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province has been placed under investigation for alleged corruption, the local Party discipline watchdog said.

He Jing, deputy director of Guangzhou Public Security Bureau, was accused of "severely violating Party disciplines" by abusing his power, taking huge bribes and having sexual relations with several women between 2003 and this year.

The 55-year-old police officer is now under "shuanggui," a Chinese term for detention of officials for corruption investigation.

He has disappeared from the public view since June 18. Earlier media reports said he was detained on August 10. His downfall also led to the investigation of other 20 police officials on corruption charges.
