Guangzhou ex-Party chief dismissed
A FORMER Party chief of Guangzhou, capital of China’s southern Guangdong Province, has been dismissed from the Party and removed from his posts, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection said yesterday.
Wan Qingliang, 60, a Guangdong native, was Guangzhou’s Party chief and a member of the standing committee of the Guangdong provincial Party committee.
Investigations found that he abused his positions to benefit others and was also involved in extortion and accepting huge sums in bribes, the commission said.
No details were given.
It also found Wan flouted rules of the Party’s frugality campaign by frequenting private clubs.
As Wan’s behavior constituted serious violations of the law and discipline, the standing committee of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection received approval to dismiss him, said the watchdog.
The case has now been transferred to judicial departments, it added.
