Guangzhou police bust mostly foreign gang, seizing 'huge amounts of cocaine'
POLICE in Guangzhou have busted a mostly foreign gang of 18 members that has targeted expatriates.
The gang members, including 16 foreigners and two Chinese, were accused of five robberies and two drug trafficking cases targeting expatriates. They were also suspected of engaging in blackmail and illegal confinement, said local police.
The gang, which called itself Freedom Fighters, was established in 2009 and appeared on Guangzhou police radar last year when offices investigated a case in which a foreign man was robbed.
After several months, Guangzhou police dispatched about 100 officers to Guangzhou, Foshan and Dongguan on February 6. The raids netted 11 foreign gang members and two Chinese.
Huge amounts of cocaine were seized at the scene along with "Freedom Fighters" uniforms and badges.
Another three foreign gangsters were nabbed and cannabis seized on April 16, the report said. The report didn?t state when the other two suspects were caught.
Guangzhou police said the gang had a priest and an accountant.
The gang gave each member a uniform, bracelets, scarves and caps.
They used axes, knives and sticks to force others to join.
