Guilty father tries to undo son's sin
A 70-year-old man in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu Province, tried hard to return the 500 yuan (US$80.3) his drug-addict son extorted from a tricycle rider, the Modern Express reported today.
The father surnamed Liu said he saw his son blackmail the rider, pretending his foot was hurt by his vehicle but refusing to see a doctor.
His son left after getting the money, but Liu felt guilty for several days and decided to return the money to the victim.
With the help of police, Liu found people who knew the victim and learned that the man who was in his 60s and earned 1,000 yuan a month delivering coal has left the city.
"People should live with conscience and morality, otherwise their lives are meaningless," said Liu. "It's parents' duty to correct the wrongs of their children."
