Guizhou vendor has flu virus
A SECOND human H7N9 avian flu case in 10 days has been reported in southwest China’s Guizhou Province, health authorities said yesterday.
A 52-year-old man was diagnosed with pneumonia before testing positive for the H7N9 virus on Sunday, according to the provincial health and family planning commission.
The man, a poultry vendor, is receiving treatment in a hospital.
A 49-year-old woman, who also works in the poultry trade, was confirmed to be infected with the H7N9 virus on December 31.
Meanwhile, Taiwan reported a new bird flu case in a chicken farm in Yunlin County.
The H5N2 avian flu virus was confirmed at the farm, where 2,672 chicken have been slaughtered to prevent further infection, according to the island’s animal and plant health inspection authority.
It was the second avian flu case in Yunlin this year. More than 26,500 birds have been culled in the two cases.
