Gunman at large after wounding cabbie

POLICE in northwestern Shaanxi Province have launched a manhunt for a gunman who allegedly shot a taxi driver, leaving him seriously injured.

The victim Jing Yanfeng, a native of Xi'an, the provincial capital, is in stable condition and being treated for the fractures caused by three gunshots in his head, left shoulder and right arm in Xijing Hospital, local Sanqin Daily reported today.

A bullet went through from the right cheek and out near his nose.

The driver said the suspect, wearing a baseball cap and white jacket, got into his cab at 11pm on Friday and told him to go to Sanyao Village.

After arriving in the village, the man sitting on the back seat said he wanted to go back to where they set off. After getting to the original spot, the man suddenly pulled out the gun and fired at Jing. He shot two more bullets into Jing as the driver attempted to escape through the door.

Seeing another driver coming up to him, the gunman got out, jumped to another taxi and fled the scene. A chase after the taxi failed.
