Gunman seized at Chengdu airport

A MAN fired a gun and tried to take a woman hostage in an incident at an airport in Chengdu, the capital of southwestern China's Sichuan Province, on Thursday night.

The Sichuan airport authority said the man fired a gun twice at about 9:20pm near a security check in the departure hall of Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport.

The man, identified as Jiang Jun, then grabbed a female passenger and ran to a passageway but was immediately wrestled to the ground by security guards. The hostage was released unhurt.

Jiang, 23, is from Sichuan's Yanting County, and police said he was carrying a starting pistol and three bullets which he had bought online and received the very day.
