H7N9 claims 27th victim
A 55-year-old man in central China's Hunan Province has died from bird flu, bringing to 27 the number of deaths from the new H7N9 virus.
The virus, which has infected 128 people in China, including one from Taiwan Island, is a threat to world health and should be taken seriously, scientists said yesterday. The World Health Organization has described it as "one of the most lethal" flu viruses but said there is as yet no evidence of human-to-human transmission.
Meanwhile, a 69-year-old farmer, also from Hunan, has become the latest person to become infected.
Shanghai hasn't reported new cases over the past few days.
