HK Ocean Park to raise admission fee by 12%

HONG Kong's popular tourist destination Ocean Park announced yesterday it will raise admission fee by 12 percent in November this year.

The planned increase will bring the price of adult single entry ticket from the current level of 250 HK dollars to 280 HK dollars, and child single entry from 125 HK dollars to 140 HK dollars. Prices for the annual pass of different categories will also rise.

A spokesperson of the theme park said the park has decided to raise admission fee to cover higher running costs as several new attractions have opened earlier this year.

Chairman of Ocean Park Allan Zeman said he understands such price increase will bring pressure to the already high inflation but the Ocean Park has to take into consideration the market conditions.

He said even after the hike, Ocean Park's admission fee will still be the lowest among its counterparts.

The park, opened in 1977, received 5.1 million visitors in 2010. It is believed to be one of the most-visited theme parks in the world.
