HK care scheme boost for elderly
HONG Kong's Secretary for Labor and Welfare Matthew Cheung said yesterday that about 20,000 senior citizens and 7,000 carers were expected to benefit from pilot schemes in Kwun Tong, Kwai Tsing and Tuen Mun districts for elderly patients who are discharged from hospital.
Speaking at an elderly-care symposium, Cheung was giving details of a HK$96 million (US$12.4 million) trial program for elderly patients launched in March last year, in which planning teams drew up care plans for those about to leave hospital, while home support teams provided them with care in the community.
