HK chicken sales resume
THE sale of local live chickens and the import of those from the Chinese mainland will resume in Hong Kong today, the secretary for the city's Food and Health department York Chow said yesterday.
Chow said agriculture department staff had inspected all 30 local farms, and 4,500 birds tested negative for the H5N1 avian influenza virus. Chilled chicken samples are also satisfactory, he added.
Sales and imports of live chickens in Hong Kong were suspended after a dead bird was last month found to be infected with the H5N1 virus.
